Our Story
At Ma Wisdom, we believe intergenerational knowledge is powerful. There’s something deeply meaningful about the kind of wisdom passed down through families, the kind that comes from lived experience, quiet observation and unconditional love.

But while that kind of wisdom is timeless, the world of parenting has changed. Today’s parents are navigating a flood of information, social expectations and mental load. Grandparents still want to help, often deeply but they don’t always feel confident knowing how to offer support that is welcome, helpful and up-to-date.

We created Ma Wisdom to bridge that gap.

This work has been a long-time vision for Gaby, who first dreamed of Ma Wisdom over a decade ago. She saw the growing need for something more inclusive and practical, something that acknowledged how families evolve and how vital grandparents remain, even as parenting philosophies shift. The love was always there but the guidance was sometimes difficult to find. That need hasn’t gone away and it’s what's driving our work today.

For Liz, this work is deeply personal. When her first child was born prematurely, the early days were filled with uncertainty. Her mum’s steady, caring presence during that time left a lasting imprint. It was a quiet kind of support, patient, empathetic and incredibly grounding. It showed her what truly helpful support can look like.

Kylee brings a strong focus on connection and emotional safety. She’s witnessed the difference it makes when grandparents can offer support without pressure or judgement, just presence, care, and respect. Her approach is about bridging, not fixing. Helping families find their own rhythm, rather than stepping in with answers

As a team, we bring a wide breadth of lived experience. We’ve all stood in some of the roles our participants hold, as mothers, mothers-in-law, aunties, grandparents and daughters. It’s this layered understanding that adds richness and realness to everything we do.

While we each have our own story, we’re united by the same goal: to honour the love grandparents bring, while offering the tools to navigate the changing landscape of parenting with confidence and compassion. We’ve designed our training to be practical, supportive and full of heart. It’s not about telling people what to do, it’s about offering insight, perspective and evidence-based information that empowers grandparents to show up in ways that feel truly supportive for everyone involved.

We blend professional expertise with real-world experience. We are qualified educators, trainers, and experienced birth and postpartum doulas with over 25 years of combined experience supporting families. We hold formal qualifications in adult education, doula support and childbirth & early parenting education and are proud members of the Doula Network of Australia.

We also work in collaboration with researchers, practitioners and educators to ensure our training remains current, grounded in best practice and inclusive of diverse family experiences. We believe being a good guide means knowing when to speak, when to listen and when to keep learning.

And finally. a fun little moment that sealed the name. When we were dreaming up what to call this project, we suddenly realised that all of our mothers’ names began with “Ma.” It felt like a sign. A name that reflected legacy, care and a beautiful sense of continuity. Whether you’re a Ma, a Grandpa, a Nan, a Pop or a chosen carer, Ma Wisdom speaks to the kind of wisdom that spans generations and strengthens families.

This is our story and we’re so glad you’ve found your way here.
