Gaby, Liz and Kylee are the three women behind Ma Wisdom. They are qualified educators, experienced doulas and, between them, holders of more than 25 years of experience supporting families through some of life's most significant moments.
They each came to this work through their own story. Gaby through a decade-long vision for something more inclusive and practical. Liz through the lived experience of having her own mother's steady presence make all the difference during a difficult early postpartum. Kylee through a deep belief in the power of connection and emotional safety, and what becomes possible when support is offered without pressure or judgment.
Together, they bring a layered understanding that's hard to manufacture; they've each stood in the roles their participants hold, as mothers, daughters, mothers-in-law, aunties and carers. It's what makes their training feel as real and so full of depth.
Liz Di Qual

Liz came to this work with a clear conviction: that the relationships within families - and the support structures that hold them together - are among the most important things we can nurture. Developing Ma Wisdom with Gaby and Kylee is, for her, a direct expression of that belief. She'll tell you plainly that this is the work she's meant to be doing.
Her perspective on family was deepened by her father, who died a couple of years ago at the remarkable age of 98. It wasn't until after he was gone that Liz fully appreciated the quiet wisdom his life had offered. He lived simply - his family, his garden, his community, his daily walks. He didn't want for much more than that. Now, when life gets busy and the mental load piles up, she takes a breath and comes back to the way he chose to live. It's a lesson she carries gently but often.
Kylee Sheperd
Co-Founder, Birth and Postpartum Doula
Kylee came to this work through years of supporting families as a doula, and through her own life - watching how profoundly the presence of grandparents and extended family can shape a child's world, and how sometimes, with the best intentions, that support can miss the mark.
What draws her to Ma Wisdom is the chance to honour what older generations carry, while helping them feel genuinely confident and connected in a parenting landscape that looks quite different from the one they navigated themselves. She describes it as heart work - holding space for people stepping into a new role and discovering who they are in this next chapter of life.
Her philosophy is shaped as much by memory as by training.
Gaby Rodgers
Co-Founder, Birth and Postpartum Doula
Gaby has been thinking about this work for a long time. Over a decade ago, as a birth doula, she started noticing a pattern - grandparents who were full of love but short on current information, wanting to help but unsure how to offer support that actually landed. That observation planted a seed that became Ma Wisdom.
For Gaby, bridging that gap isn't just professional - it's personal. Born in Switzerland and raised in Australia, she spent her childhood making long trips back every couple of years to be with family. Her grandmother died when Gaby was ten, so the time they had was limited, but it was close and intentional. Her grandmother had a gift for creating real quality time, and that stayed with Gaby long after. It shaped what she values now as a grandparent herself - not just showing up, but making the time count.
